Romans 13
English Standard Version (ESV)
8 Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9For the commandments, "You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet," and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." 10Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
Why are there so many Christians filled with hate? We claim the Holy Spirit but maintain many of the bad behaviors of our un-regenerate past. We become a new creation and either maintain a worldly mindset or completely detach from secular society. Whichever way we go a self righteousness, judgmental, wrathful, and angry demeanor always lies just below the surface. We often use the Bible to explain away our disgraceful behavior, aligning our actions with God's will.
God does not need anyone else to accomplish His goals. We know from prophecy that our all-powerful, all knowing , all sovereign over all things God has a plan for this world and its people. We have no control over that design. As children of God we want to advance this plan and play our part, but our part is to spread the love of Jesus; nothing more. Church, Baptism's, prayer, and all dogmatic practices are just an extension of our Gospel responsibility. How can you help save people if you hate them. We are not called to save our friends alone.
I suffer daily from Christians that I meet. Love, understanding, and peace are not their go to emotion. They have built walls against others and attack to protect what's important to them regardless of how irrational that may be. Some wear huge smiles and give warm hugs; until you challenge their thought process in anyway, or use critical thinking in how to handle the Holy text. Many people don't know why they believe what they do, they search not for depth in understanding. Some literally become a danger to society due to fanaticism.
Imagine where we would be without Jesus's sacrifice on Cavalry for our sins. It should be a humbling pondering. We are innately evil from birth. We can never earn salvation even if we wanted to. We are filthy rags walking the surface of the land. We want to be good, but our sins permeate us genetically and influence us spiritually. It's no excuse to hate or point fingers at our fellow man. We are to recognize our condition and allow it to humble ourselves to the condition of others. We try, but we just can't stop.
